Celebrating Black History Month: Grace, Paying it Forward
This month, we celebrate Black history, culture, and people in a special series showing appreciation for our Black residents.
Meet Grace—an overcomer of hardship and a giver of meals and clothing to San Diego’s homeless community.
Divorce was never part of her plan, but when it happened, she found herself struggling with addiction and homelessness for years. She lost her daughter, her home, and, at times, even herself. She remained stuck in that cycle because she desperately needed help.
Her turning point was faith. Today, Grace leads a healthy life, living with her daughter and granddaughter. With tears in her eyes, she reflects on her transformation—one she never imagined possible. Now, she gives back however she can, using her resources to provide food, blankets, and care for those in need in City Heights, especially during the cold winter months.
Her journey is one of resilience, restoration, and generosity, and we admire her contributions to our neighborhood. Grace embodies passing it forward and offering hope to those who need it most. Her journey was never in vain. Instead, it prepared her to be an emblem of hope for others.
