Board Member Highlight: Meet Matthew Finnegan
“Well, my dad died when I was young, and I remember how important that social security check really was. It kept our family afloat. I also knew families who relied on affordable housing. I understand the importance of social services, and that’s why I love the CHCDC.”
Matt Finnegan is our numbers guy. He’s the treasurer of our board, which means he’s focused on making sure everything adds up, that we’re sustainable, growing, and financially healthy.
We recently shared about another member of our board, a bank manager who leverages his position and expertise to the benefit of his community. As an accountant, Finnegan is the same. He clearly doesn’t just crunch numbers for the sake of crunching numbers. Like all of our board, he’s in this for community. He wants to see City Heights thriving and resilient.
“It’s honestly funny. I saw an advert asking for accounting help, so I came into the CHCDC office to meet with the director who was here at the time. We’re, like, halfway through the interview and I’m getting confused. I finally asked him, ‘Isn’t this for volunteer accounting work?’ He looked a little surprised and explained he was interviewing me for a position on the board, so I just laughed and rolled with it. That was years ago, and now here we are.”
Finnegan jumped in to help. He sees needs. He understands the importance of people getting involved in their community. He gets the value of social services, and now he’s bringing his expertise to the table, and we’re so grateful!
This is one more reminder for all of us: if you don’t think you’ve got the skill or ability to make a difference in your community, you’re wrong. You have agency and skill, you just have to be willing to see it and say yes! Jump in with us, and thanks to all of you who are already invested in serving City Heights!
