Transportation Justice Win—The Landis St Bikeway Is Officially Open!

Last month, local leaders and community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Landis Bikeway!

Officially opened on April 23 of this year, we’ve long advocated for this bikeway project alongside the Built Environment Team, a resident advocacy group. This bikeway will run along Landis Street between Alabama Street and Chamoune Avenue and features traffic calming measures, buffered bike lanes, reverse-angle parking, and raised crosswalks. The project will offer residents direct access to North Park and Downtown San Diego, but most important is how the Landis Street bikeway will make it easier for City Heights residents to walk, bike, and drive within the community and make it easier for them to enjoy the diversity City Heights offers.

This is 3.1 miles of safety improvements between North Park and City Heights and the project is estimated to cost around $8.8 million with 70% of that running through our community. That’s about $6 million in infrastructural investments into City Heights.

We are thankful to the community and especially the City Heights Built Environment Team for actively being engaged in the Landis Street Bikeway and help develop a project that will truly enrich the City Heights Community!
