Juneteenth: Not Just a Commemoration But A Call To Action
Today, we stand together in unity to honor and celebrate Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. It marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom – a full two and half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
In the spirit of this significant historical event, City Heights CDC will take this time to reflect on the rich history, resilience, and enduring contributions of Black American people and communities. We wholeheartedly understand the importance of remembering our past as we work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable future for everyone in our City Heights community.
Today isn’t just a commemoration, it’s a call to action. It is a reminder of the work that is yet to be done in the pursuit of social justice and racial equity. As we celebrate, City Heights CDC is reminded of our commitment to educating, engaging, and empowering ourselves and our community members as we carry this spirit of unity and strength into our day to day lives.
