How You Helped Keep Newborn Diana Safe

This is one month-old baby Diana. Isn’t she beautiful?

Diana’s mother wraps the blanket around the newborn as she tells her story.

”There were…complications when Diana was born. I had a C Section, and my husband needed to be home to take care of the kids for a couple weeks. He used all his vacation time to be home to take care of his family, and they fired him for it.

I couldn’t do anything without him, and they just fired him. He’s a good worker. He’s responsible. He didn’t do anything wrong, but they let him go and he had to find a new job.

Now he has a new job, but they haven’t paid him on time. He asked them when payment will come, since it’s overdue, but they didn’t say. It just feels unfair.”

The mother pauses again to tuck a blanket under Diana’s chin.

“We are hard working people. We believe in hard work…but when life is too difficult, what can we do? I’m about to go buy diapers, and I’m not sure if we can afford it. I wish more people understood the situation we’re in. The rent is so high, so we put all of our money toward rent every month, but one thing goes wrong—like how I got sick after having Diana—and we’re stuck. We have to make hard decisions.”

Thanks to all of you who give toward our One Month Away eviction prevention effort, Diana and her family will be able to make rent this month. They’ll be able to stay in their homes long enough, hopefully, to figure this out and get back on their feet. The mother said a simple, sincere “Thank you.” over and over, because she knows this buys her family the time they need.

So hear it from her, and hear it from us: thank you.

When you give, you keep families safe—and that includes families with newborns.

Thank you, thank you.
